Depending on the thickness of the cutting material, the pressure and flow rate of the auxiliary gas are also different. The air pressure of the auxiliary gas has a direct impact on the laser cutting effect. The auxiliary gas can blow away the slag in time when the laser cutting machine is running, cool the workpiece and clean the lens. So what kind of auxiliary gas is used in general fiber laser cutting machines?

Answer: The gas used by the laser cutting machine is different according to the different materials to be cut, and the gas requirements for materials with different thicknesses are also different. In addition, there is air pressure and flow rate are not the same.

What are the characteristics of different gases used in fiber laser cutting machines and which materials are they suitable for?

Oxygen: Oxygen is mainly used to cut carbon steel, tool plate, stainless steel, electroplated steel plate, copper, copper alloy, etc. It mainly uses the special effect of oxygen reaction heat to greatly improve the cutting efficiency. It can also make the incision surface black or dark yellow.

Air: Compared with other gases, the cost of air is relatively low. Only need to prepare an air compressor to use. In addition, there is about 20% oxygen in the air. However, its cutting efficiency is far inferior to that of oxygen, and its effect is similar to that of nitrogen, and its incision is also dark yellow. Mainly suitable for aluminum alloy, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, plated steel plate and so on.

Argon: Argon is an inert gas. It is mainly used to prevent nitriding and oxidation of cutting materials when laser cutting machines are used, and it is also used in welding. Compared with other commonly used gases, the cost has increased, and the gas incision is generally white. Mainly suitable for titanium, titanium alloy and other materials.

Nitrogen: When oxygen is used as the auxiliary gas, an oxide film will be formed on the cutting surface. Using nitrogen can prevent the appearance of the oxide film and form an oxidation-free cutting. The surface of the non-oxidized cut can be welded, sprayed, and has the characteristics of strong corrosion resistance. The incision is generally white, mainly suitable for cutting stainless steel, plated steel plate, brass, aluminum alloy, aluminum and other materials.
